British Transport Police apprehended a man in Preston with a suitcase containing cannabis valued at nearly £80,000.
A man identified as Le Van Phuc, aged 29, was intercepted by the British Transport Police County Lines taskforce on April 18, after officers noticed him exiting a train at Preston station while wheeling a large black suitcase and carrying a black rucksack.
Phuc's behavior raised the officers' suspicions, prompting them to approach him while he awaited a service to Glasgow. Upon their approach, Phuc distanced himself from the suitcase and denied ownership when questioned.
Upon searching the suitcase, officers discovered two sizable bin bags filled with cannabis, estimated to have a street value of almost £80,000. A further search revealed £160 in cash and a return ticket from Glasgow to Bolton.
Residing without a fixed address, Phuc pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class B drugs and subsequently received an eleven-week prison sentence at Preston Crown Court. Investigating officer PC Andrew Margerison emphasized the vigilance of the County Lines taskforce, warning potential offenders of their persistent presence on the railway.
